Fortis Hospital Billed A 7 YO Dengue Patient’s Parents 18 Lakh, she died
While Healthcare is not a poor or a rich man’s choice, and is majorly a need to each one, hospitals in India are more like Money making machines. From government hospitals being understaffed and private hospitals charging a lot of money for their facilities, bridging the gap between them is next to impossible. In a Gurugram based Fortis Hospital, a Dwarka resident Jayant Singh was charged over a lakh rupees per day for fifteen days when they admitted their 7-year-old daughter, Adya to the hospital for treatment of dengue. Adya passed away on the 15th of September and the bill soared to about 18 lakhs in the span the child was admitted to the hospital. Medical consumables like 2700 gloves were billed at Rs. 17,142 and medical investigations including blood tests cost him another Rs. 2.17 lakh.
