Full control over Hong Kong achieved, determined on Taiwan: Xi Jinping
Beijing (China), October 16: China has gained full control over Hong Kong and turned it from chaos to governance, said President Xi Jinping on Sunday, according to Reuters news agency.
Delivering a report to the twice-a-decade party meeting in Beijing, Xi stated that China has also waged a serious battle against Taiwan separatism and is dedicated and able of defending territorial integrity. Along with the crackdown on Hong Kong, Xi Jinping defended Taiwan's military aggression, claiming he "defend" the country's "dignity and core interests" in order to ensure security.
"In the face of turbulent developments in Hong Kong, the central government exercised its overall jurisdiction over the special administrative region as prescribed by China's Constitution and the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region," Xi was quoted as saying by state media outlet Xinhua.
He stated that once the region's "order" was restored, it was ensured that Hong Kong is controlled by "patriots."
On the self-governed island of Taiwan, he added, "In response to separatist activities aimed at Taiwan independence and gross provocations of external interference in Taiwan affairs, we have resolutely fought against separatism and countered interference."
Xi further stated that China has proved their commitment and capability to safeguard "China's sovereignty, as well as resistance to "Taiwan's independence."
In the face of "changes in the international landscape," the Chinese President stated that the country has "maintained firm strategic resolve and shown a fighting spirit."
"Throughout these endeavours, we have safeguarded China's dignity and core interests and kept ourselves well-positioned for pursuing development and ensuring security."

Regional experts estimate that Chairman Xi Jinping's term will be extended for another five years.
He will either be re-elected as CCP general secretary or will be elected for the first time as CCP chairman, a position that has been vacant since 1982 and was once held by Mao Zedong.
The congress is taking place during one of the most perilous periods in recent years in international politics. Ukraine is at war as President Vladimir Putin attempts to establish himself as a great Russian leader, and China remains a staunch supporter of this would-be tsar.
At the same time, tensions across the Taiwan Strait are at their greatest in decades, as China strives to force Taipei into acquiescence.
Apart from that, diplomatic tensions with the United States, the aftereffects of a global pandemic, and China's own par and efforts to eradicate COVID-19 are all present, and all the components for a building storm are present.
