PTC Web Desk:  A lecture by Chinese-Canadian educator Jiang Xueqin is drawing global attention after his earlier predictions about rising tensions between the United States and Iran resurfaced online. Social media users have even begun referring to him as “China’s Nostradamus” after two of his major forecasts from 2024 appeared to unfold in real time.

Jiang, who runs a YouTube channel called “Predictive History”, had earlier suggested that the return of Donald Trump to power could increase the likelihood of a confrontation between Washington and Tehran. His lecture, recorded in May 2024, is now widely circulating as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain high.

An educator based in Beijing, Jiang teaches philosophy and history and has worked for years on education reform and curriculum development in China. A graduate of Yale College, he has also gained recognition online for analysing world events through historical patterns and strategic behaviour.

Through his “Predictive History” lectures, Jiang attempts to forecast major geopolitical developments by examining recurring themes in history, game theory and power politics. His method loosely reflects the concept of “psychohistory” popularised in the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov, which imagines predicting future events using long-term historical trends.

In his 2024 lecture, Jiang argued that any large-scale military conflict with Iran could turn into a strategic trap for the United States. Drawing a comparison with the disastrous Sicilian expedition launched by ancient Athens, he suggested that geography, supply challenges and local resistance could complicate a prolonged campaign.

During a recent appearance on the online political programme “Breaking Points”, Jiang reiterated his concerns, claiming that Iran has spent years preparing for such a confrontation and may rely on asymmetric tactics to prolong the conflict. According to him, the outcome of a long war could significantly reshape global power dynamics.

While some observers view his analysis as a bold geopolitical forecast, others remain sceptical, arguing that historical comparisons cannot reliably predict modern conflicts. Nevertheless, Jiang’s once-obscure lecture has now turned him into one of the most talked-about geopolitical commentators on the internet.

Whether his broader predictions about the conflict and its consequences prove accurate remains uncertain, but his analysis continues to spark debate across academic and political circles.
