Goa gangrape case: CM Pramod Sawant says 'teenagers shouldn't spend nights on beaches'
Amid pressure from the Opposition over the gangrape case of two minor girls on a beach, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made a controversial remark in the state Assembly. He said that parents need to introspect on why their children were on the beach late at night.
He said that when 14-year-olds stay on the beach late at night, the parents need to introspect. He further said that the government or police couldn't be held responsible if children don’t listen to their parents.

The controversial remark came during a debate on a calling attention notice in the House. Pramod Sawant, who also holds the home portfolio, had said that parents have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their children.

Referring to Goa's gangrape case, he also said that the parents should not let their children, particularly minors, out at night.
The Goa Congress spokesperson Altone D’Costa on Thursday said that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated.
“Why should we fear while moving around at night?" he asked, adding that criminals should be in jail and that the law-abiding citizens should be out freely moving around.
Four men, including a government employee, a driver with the agriculture department, posed as policemen and raped the two girls.
These girls were with some boys who were beaten up by the four men, pretending to be cops, on Benaulim beach on Sunday.
