Golden Temple sacrilege incident: 72 hours on, Punjab Police clueless on accused's identity

Even after 72 hours of the alleged sacrilege bid at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Punjab Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the accused, who was beaten to death by an angry mob. The Punjab Government had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Law and Order. which was supposed to submit an investigation report within two days. However, even after 72 hours, not much breakthrough has been achieved by the SIT, which is still working to identify the accused through DNA testing. Still, his fingerprint had been taken on paper and the police were trying to match it with the database. The postmortem was held on Wednesday. The police have also circulated the photographs of the sacrilege accused. Meanwhile, Sukhchain Gill said an interim report regarding the investigation would soon be presented. The Golden temple sacrilege incident took place during evening prayers on Saturday when the man jumped over the railing around Sri Guru Granth Sahib and allegedly attempted to desecrate the Holy Book of the Sikhs with a sword. -PTC News
