Gujarat: Over 1200 hospitalised after consuming food at wedding of local Cong leader's son
Mehsana (Gujarat), March 5: Over 1,200 people fell ill and were hospitalised after they consumed food at the wedding of a local Congress leader's son in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, police informed on Saturday.
According to a Visnagar rural police station official, the incident took place late Friday night in Savala village in Visnagar taluka.
Mehsana Superintendent of Police Parthrajsinh Gohil said that more than1,200 individuals fell ill and had to be hospitalised after eating food at the wedding.
People began vomiting and complaining of diarrhoea, he claimed and were brought to nearby hospitals in Visnagar, Mehsana, and Vadnagar.

The Forensic Science Laboratory and the Food and Drug Department have taken samples of the food served at the function for further examination, he said.
Several people attended the wedding celebration of a local Congress leader's son in Savala village, according to Visnagar rural police. Non-vegetarian food was also on the menu.
Further investigation in the matter is underway, said the police.
