Amid farmers protest, the former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal along with various MPs from other states on Thursday wrote a memo to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla citing assault on their rights. While sharing the memo, Harsimrat Kaur Badal stated that "First we aren't allowed to speak about Kisan Andolan in Parliament, now we aren't allowed to meet farmers on Delhi borders which are sealed like international borders. A cruel assault on our rights! Have written a memo to Lok Sabha Speaker. Democracy can't be stifled like this!"

The memo was represented by Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK), Saugata Roy (AITC), Supriya Sule (NCP), Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Shiromani Akali Dal), NK Premchandran (RSP), Tiruchi Siva (DMK), AM Ariff (CPI(M)), S Venkateshan (CPI(M)), M Selvaraj (CPI), Hasnain Masoodi (National Conference), Thol Thirumavalavan (VCK) and Ravi Kumar (VCK). The memo stated that "Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh had been doing a dharna on the borders of Delhi since more than two months. We have been told that the water supply and electricity to farmers' tents has been disconnected."

"Internet services stopped; portable toilets have been taken away. The government has taken a repressive attitude towards the farmers in order to stifle their agitation," it added. It further stated that "This morning at around 10:00 am all of us meet went to the Ghazipur border in a bus. We wanted to physically meet the farmers and ascertain their condition. We found that huge barricades had been erected at the border, barbed wires and concerting fencing has been erected and trenches have been dug." Harsimrat Kaur Badal along with various MPs from other states wrote a memo to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla citing assault on their rights. "We shall request you to take such steps as you deem fit and proper to protect the rights of elected Members of Parliament and also allow a separate discussion on farmers issues in Parliament," it concluded. -PTC News-
