Indian women’s team ends tour of Spain on an even note
The visiting Indian women’s hockey team squandered 2-0 first half lead to play a 2-2 draw against the hosts Spain in the fourth and final game on Thursday. With this the four match series ended in 1-1 as two games had ended in draws. Last year in June, the visiting Indian women’s team also shared honours with the hosts Spain in a 5-Test series that ended in 2-2 draw. One game of that series had ended in a draw.
After losing the first game 2-3, Indian girls gave an improved account of themselves and won the third game 5-2 after playing a 1-1 draw in the third game.
It was Deep Ekka that gave the visitors an early lead in the 8th minute with a beautiful penalty corner conversion. Seventeen minutes later Navneet kaur added a beautiful field goal to make the score 2-0 in favour of the visitors.
The third quarter, however, saw the hosts staging a tremendous fight back with goals in the 35th and 39th minute. First goal for Spain came from forward Lucia Jimenez in the 35th minute and four minutes later striker Clara YCart scored from a penalty corner to make the score 2-2. Though both the teams went all out to break the deadlock but none could score as the game ended in a draw.
Indian team now leaves for Ireland where it will play two games.
