IPL 2022: Delhi Police arrest three for online betting during match
New Delhi, April 27: The Delhi Police arrested three men for online betting during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Delhi's Vijay Vihar on Tuesday. "Based on a tip received in the PS Vijay Vihar (Delhi) on Tuesday evening, three persons namely Tarun (33), Deepak (39), and Dinesh Khatri (24) were arrested for playing and running IPL cricket betting on a match between Rajasthan Royals (RC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)," the police informed. The police officials further revealed that they have recovered 5 mobile phones, 1 Laptop, 1 LED TV, 1 Calculator, 2 Note Books, 2 Pens and Rs 1,09,260 (in cash) from the location. "Bobby, the owner of the building, who also ran this betting racket, is currently absconding. Concerted efforts are being made to nab him," they added. Earlier, six people were detained in Nagaon district in Central Assam for their alleged involvement in gambling in the IPL T20 cricket tournament. Officials had informed that the police have confiscated cash worth Rs 2 lakh along with mobile phones. At least four were arrested last week in Navi Mumbai for betting during an IPL match. A scrap dealer and a caterer were among the accused. Police had seized mobile phones and cash totalling Rs 3,20,600 from the quartet. More investigation into the matter is underway.
