Jaspal Atwal apologise to Canada & India, renounced separate Sikh state of Khalistan

The controversial Canadian citizen of Indian origin Jaspal Atwal has apologised for "any embarrassment this matter has caused" to Canada, India and Sikh community due to the controversies arisen out of his recent India visit . He has also renounced separate Sikh state of Khalistan . He also claimed that he was no longer a supporter of the Sikh independence movement. "I am sorry for any embarrassment this matter has caused to Canada, India, my community and my family," Atwal said while addressing media persons in Vancouver. CBC quoted Jaspal Atwal saying , "I renounce any form of terrorism. I do not advocate for an independent Sikh nation. I, like the vast majority of Sikhs who once advocated for this cause, have reconciled with the nation of India." Reading a written statement Atwal further said ,"He has nothing but regret and remorse" for his role in the 1986 attack on an Indian minister of state. "I have nothing but regret and remorse for my actions and the suffering I caused to the victim. What I did was described as an act of terror by the judge who dealt with this matter. I accept full responsibility. I do not disagree with the court's conclusions." "I have met many politicians who have wanted to reach out to the Indian community. I have had assisted with making sure the Indian community was able to communicate with politicians." -PTC News
