Maha Shivratri 2022: PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi, others extend wishes, pray for country's prosperity
New Delhi, March 1: On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, political leaders extended their wishes and prayed for the prosperity of the country and its people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said, "Best wishes to all of you on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri. May the God of gods, Mahadev blesses everyone. Om Namah Shivay."
Union Minister Amit Shah also offered prayers for everyone's welfare and the prosperity of the country.
"Hearty greetings to all the citizens on the auspicious occasion of "Maha Shivratri". I pray to Dev-adhidev Mahadev for the welfare of all and prosperity of the country. Om Namah Shivay!" he said on Twitter.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Jagat Prakash Nadda took to his Twitter handle and said "Hearty greetings to all the citizens on the auspicious occasion of "Mahashivratri". I pray to Mahadev for the prosperity and prosperity of the country. Om Namah Shivaya."

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, on the other hand, participated in a Maha Shivratri programme in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. "Best wishes to all the citizens on the occasion of Mahashivratri. May the welfare of the whole world be with the blessings of Lord Bholenath and Mother Parvati. Har Har Mahadev," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also wished everyone on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
"Shiva is gentle. Shiva is courage. Shiva is the truth. Happy Maha Shivratri," Rahul Gandhi tweeted, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra offered prayers at Sihari Shiva temple in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow.
"Wishing you all a very Happy Mahashivratri. Devadhidev Mahadev, Lord Shiva in the form of truth bless everyone," she said on Twitter.
Meanwhile, devotees from all over India flocked to Lord Shiva temples to pray on Maha Shivaratri 2022.
Devotees offered prayers at the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling Temple in Nashik, Maharashtra. The Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar also saw a large number of visitors.
While there is a Shivaratri in every lunisolar month of the Hindu calendar, it is believed that the Maha Shivaratri occurs only once a year, in February/March, when winter ends and spring and summer begin.

Maha Shivaratri is the most auspicious of the 12 Shivaratris observed each year, as it is said to be the night of Shiva and Shakti's convergence, which in essence symbolizes the male and feminine energies that keep the world in balance.
Shiva and Shakti are believed to be the embodiment of love, energy, and unity.
