Mumbai Bandh Called Off By Maratha Groups After Protests

Mumbai Bandh Called Off By Maratha Groups After Protests Organisations leading to Maratha agitation in Mumbai have appealed to the Thane and Navi Mumbai organisers to call off the stir. Maratha Agitation in Thane has also been called off. In the same way, Maratha Kranti Morcha calls of Mumbai Bandh, but highways in Navi Mumbai are still blocked. Sion Panvel highway in Navi Mumbai still blocked. Situation still tense at Kalamboli expressway and that has been blocked. The bandh imposed by Maratha outfits is getting out of hand as agitators blocked the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at its entry-exit point in Kalamboli, threw stones and set a police van on fire, resulting in lathi-charge and police firing in the air. There were major traffic snarls as protesters blocked busy roads and highways at several spots and reportedly threw stones at BEST buses. The intensity of the bandh is expected to be severe in Navi Mumbai as compared to Mumbai and Thane. Stones were thrown at two buses in Navi Mumbai. The protesters also forced shops to close in many areas. In Raigadh district’s Kamothe, protesters have taken to the streets, shutting down shops and holding a bike rally. Internet services were suspended in rural areas of Aurangabad district to prevent any untoward incident. One constable died and nine other policemen were injured in stone-throwing as protesters clashed with the police and torched vehicles on Tuesday. -PTC News
