PTC News Desk: Ten Indians working as support staff for the Russian military have been released and repatriated, while the Indian side continues to encourage Moscow to ensure the repatriation of all other citizens serving in such roles.

Indian authorities acknowledged that two Indian nationals died while serving with Russian military troops on the front lines of the war in Ukraine and that approximately 20 Indians have so far sought assistance in being released from their positions as support workers so that they can go home.

"Ten such individuals have returned to India; they have been released and returned home," said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, at a routine media conference on Thursday.

The Indian side is "very actively pursuing" the matter of all Indians serving in the Russian military at various levels, including the foreign ministry, defence ministry, and several other bodies in Russia, he stated.

"We are committed to bring back all the people who so far have got in touch with us and want to be released and repatriated and return back home," Jaiswal added.

“We have been assured by the Russian side that the other Indians who are there will also be released and will return home. We are working out those details."
