The spine-chilling incident that took place 11 years ago still continue to haunt Indians and shook the conscience of the country which witnessed unprecedented protests that ultimately led to several legal reforms.
However, 11 years have passed since the gruesome incident, and crimes against women and girls are only increasing in the country.

The Nirbhaya case involved six accused, including a juvenile, who had brutally and sexually assaulted the woman in a moving bus in South Delhi. The accused had thrown out the victim and her male friend at an isolated spot after the sexual assault. She died in a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012, triggering nationwide protests that resulted in giving more teeth to laws related to forms of sexual harassment.
December 16, 2012 : The day of horrific incident
The spine-chilling, distressing and horrific incident unfolded on December 16, 2023 when 23-year-old female physiotherapy student Nirbhaya with her male friend was attacked, brutally and sexually assaulted by six accused in the moving bus in South Delhi.
December 17, 2012: Accused arrested
Taking swift action into the horrific and deadly incident, Delhi Police arrested accused all the six , including a juvenile, in connection with incident.

December 29, 2012: Nirbhaya succumbed to injuries
Tragically, Nirbhaya succumbed to injuries at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, where she was transferred for specialised treatment from Delhi
