18th Lok Sabha's first session starts June 24, Rajya Sabha on June 27: Kiren Rijiju
PTC News Desk: The 18th Lok Sabha's first session will start on June 24 for the swearing or affirmation of the newly elected members and end on July 3, according to a statement made on Wednesday by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
During the first three days of the session, the newly elected leaders will elect the Speaker of the House and take an oath or affirmation of membership in the Lok Sabha.
On June 27, President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It is anticipated that he would present the new government's five-year plan.
"First session of 18th Lok Sabha is being summoned from 24/6/24 to 3/7/24 for oath/affirmation of newly elected members, election of Speaker, President's address and discussion thereon," Kiren Rijiju said in a post on X.
Kiren Rijiju further mentioned that the Rajya Sabha's 264th Session will start on June 27 and end on July 3. Following the President's speech on June 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to present his council of ministers to Parliament.
It is anticipated that a forceful opposition will attempt to corner the NDA administration on a number of topics during the debate on the Motion of Thanks over the President's address. The prime minister will address the discussion in both Houses on the Motion of Thanks regarding the President's address.
On the third day of the session, it was anticipated that Radha Mohan Singh, a Bharatiya Janata Party member and former Union minister who has been re-elected seven times, would be chosen as the acting Speaker.
On July 22, the Union Budget in its entirety is anticipated to be presented. An interim budget was released on February 1 in advance of this summer's Lok Sabha Elections.
The 17th Lok Sabha's final session, which was also its budget session, took place from January 31 to February 10, 2024.
202 legislation were introduced and 222 bills were passed during the 274 sittings of the Lok Sabha. During its 271 sittings, the Rajya Sabha introduced 31 measures and passed 220 of them. During the 17th Lok Sabha's tenure, 221 Bills were approved by both Houses and turned into Acts.
