8-month-old baby among two killed as building collapses in Maharashtra's Thane
Maharashtra building collapse: Two people, including an 8-month-old baby, were killed after a building collapsed in Thane, Maharashtra on Sunday. Five others were also injured in the collapse.
A residential building fell just after midnight on Sunday, according to Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell head Yasin Tadvi. According to a civic official, a single-story building with six flats on Durga Road in Bhiwandi's Dhobi Talao district fell at 12.35 a.m.
Immediately following the incident, a team from Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) and Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation firefighters raced to the scene.
During the night, a search and rescue operation was conducted, and seven people were rescued from the debris. However, an eight-month-old girl and a woman were killed, and five other people were injured.
Uzma Atif Momin (40) and Taslima Mosar Momin (8 months) have been identified as the victims.
Four women and a 65-year-old man were among those injured. They were sent to a nearby hospital and were said to be out of danger.
The search and rescue operation, as well as the debris removal, were completed at 3:30 a.m.
It was unclear how old the building was or whether it was on the list of unsafe constructions.
