Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif take holy dip at Maha Kumbh as pilgrim count crosses 91 lakh on Day 43
PTC Web Desk: As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 enters Day 43, the spiritual gathering continues to witness an overwhelming influx of devotees. By 2 pm, over 91 lakh pilgrims had taken a holy dip at the sacred Sangam, while the total count since January 13 has reached an astounding 62.97 crore. With just two days left before the grand fair concludes, the fervour remains high, drawing both devotees and celebrities alike.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was among the prominent figures who participated in the sacred ritual at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati on Monday. Expressing his gratitude, the actor remarked, "It feels incredible to take a dip in the holy Sangam. The arrangements are exceptional, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the police, and all officials for managing such a grand event efficiently."
Joining the spiritual journey, actress Katrina Kaif also made her presence felt at the Kumbh Mela. She visited the Parmarth Niketan camp, where she received blessings from Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati.
Traffic jams a major challenge
As the fair continues, traffic congestion has become a significant challenge. Entry points to Prayagraj and parking areas near the Mela grounds are experiencing severe gridlocks. Vehicles arriving in the city are being stopped 10 km away from the Sangam, with pilgrims required to rely on autos, e-rickshaws, or shuttle buses to reach the venue. However, the demand far exceeds availability, leading to a surge in fares. Some auto drivers are reportedly charging Rs 1,000 for a 10-km ride, leaving many pilgrims with no option but to walk long distances.
Mahashivratri procession cancelled
In light of the heavy congestion, the authorities have taken preventive measures ahead of Mahashivratri celebrations. Traditionally, a 16-km-long grand procession is carried out in the city, with various temples organising processions as well. However, after discussions with religious committees, the administration has successfully negotiated the cancellation of this year’s Mahashivratri procession to avoid worsening traffic conditions.
Board exams rescheduled due to traffic chaos
Recognising the challenges posed by the influx of devotees, the administration has postponed the 10th and 12th board examinations originally scheduled for February 24. The exams will now be conducted on March 9, ensuring that students do not face logistical difficulties in reaching their exam centres amid the ongoing Maha Kumbh rush.
