The state's Rural Works Department (RWD) was building the 16-metre-long bridge over a canal to connect Amwa village to the rest of the block. The construction cost was estimated to be Rs 1.5 crore.

"The exact cause of the incident is not yet determined. This is a serious issue, and a departmental investigation has been ordered. Dipak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of RWD, said that those found guilty would face severe consequences.
