New Delhi, July 07: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended three Indian Railways employees in connection with the tragic train accident in Odisha's Balasore. The incident claimed the lives of more than 293 individuals and left over 1,000 injured. The CBI is investigating the possibility of a criminal conspiracy behind the accident.

The arrested individuals, identified as Arun Kumar Mahanta, Md Amir Khan, and Pappu Kumar, are facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and destruction of evidence.

The Commissioner of Railways Safety (CRS), responsible for investigating the accident, has attributed human error by the signalling department workers as the cause, ruling out sabotage, technical glitches, or machine faults.

Negligence and Safety Procedures:

According to the CRS, negligence on the part of a few ground officials is evident, as they failed to adhere to proper safety protocols and inspections, particularly after modifications were made to the design three years ago due to safety concerns. The CRS report highlights the importance of following adequate safety procedures to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The arrest of these railway employees marks a significant development in uncovering the truth behind the tragic train accident and ensuring accountability for the loss of numerous lives. The CBI's ongoing investigation will shed more light on any potential criminal conspiracy and the extent of responsibility borne by the individuals involved.
