Bengaluru Ola employee dies by suicide, blames CEO, company in suicide note; FIR registered

PTC News Desk: A 38-year-old engineer employed with Ola Electrics died by suicide after consuming poison on September 28, leaving behind a 28-page suicide note- accusing his superiors, including Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal, of mental harassment and financial exploitation.

Ola, however, in a statement, said that the engineer, identified as K Aravind, never raised any complaint or grievance regarding his employment or harassment.

Officials said that K. Aravind, a homologation engineer at Ola since 2022, died after allegedly consuming poison at his home in Chikkalasandra, Bengaluru, on September 28. His friends discovered him in distress and rushed him to Maharaja Agrasena Hospital, where he was under treatment but passed away the same day.

Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) in connection with the incident.

Soon after his death, Aravind’s brother discovered a 28-page note addressed to him, in which the engineer accused Subrat Kumar Das and Bhavish Aggarwal of workplace harassment and extreme pressure. In the note, Aravind claimed he was mentally harassed, denied salary and allowances, and subjected to severe workplace stress, which pushed him to take his own life.

Following his brother’s complaint, the police registered a case on October 6 against Aggarwal, Das, and others under charges of abetment to suicide. The FIR alleges that continuous harassment, humiliation, and financial exploitation by his seniors directly led to Aravind’s death. His family has urged authorities to hold the accused accountable through strict legal action.

Ola released a statement today and condoled the death of its employee.

"We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of our colleague, Aravind, and our thoughts remain with his family during this difficult time. Aravind had been associated with Ola Electric for over three and a half years and was based at our headquarters in Bangalore. During his tenure, Aravind never raised any complaint or grievance regarding his employment or any harassment. His role also did not involve any direct interaction with the company's top management, including the promoter," it said.

The company also said it has challenged the FIR against its founder and others before the Karnataka High Court.
