Bihar train accident: Union Minister Ashwini Choubey oversees recovery and rescue operations
Buxar, October 12: Union Minister Ashwini Choubey conducted an inspection of the ongoing restoration efforts and rescue operations in the aftermath of the train accident that occurred a day earlier in Bihar. This incident involved the derailment of 21 coaches of the Kamakhya-Bound North-East Express.
Union Minister of State, Ashwini Choubey, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, "It is a terrifying scene. I thank the locals for their support in the rescue operation... Thousands of people left all their work and rushed here to help..."
Choubey further informed that extensive measures were promptly initiated upon receiving the news. He ensured that relevant departments, including the railway ministry and the Prime Minister's Office, were informed. The minister provided assurance regarding the treatment of the injured, stating that they are currently under medical care at AIIMS Patna and are out of danger. Efforts are being made to restore normal operations, while a comprehensive inquiry into the incident is in progress.
The tragic incident unfolded at Raghunathpur station in Buxar, Bihar, when 21 coaches of the North-East Express train derailed around 9:30 pm. Regrettably, this mishap resulted in the loss of at least four lives, with around 70 individuals sustaining injuries.
The North-East Express train was en route from Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam when the derailment occurred near Raghunathpur station, which is part of the Danapur division of the East Central Railway.
Tarun Prakash, the General Manager of East Central Railways (ECR), reported that authorities are actively investigating the cause of the accident.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the successful completion of evacuation and rescue operations, affirming that all coaches have been thoroughly examined. Passengers affected by the incident will soon be transferred to a special train to facilitate their onward journey.
The Assam Chief Minister's Office disclosed that they are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with district authorities in Buxar and other relevant agencies as they deal with this unfortunate derailment.
