Chandigarh Police issue traffic advisory for Independence Day 2023

Independence Day in Chandigarh: Ahead of Independence Day celebrations in Chandigarh on August 15, Chandigarh Police on Saturday issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement across the city. 

According to the advisory issued, Traffic for general public will remain be closed from 6:30 am till the function at the Parade Ground concludes. 


The Chandigarh Traffic police released a route plan, so that visitors may avoid any inconvenience.

These roads stretches will be remain closed in Chandigarh on Independence Day 2023 

  • From roundabout of Sector 16/17/22/23 upto Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Sector 22-A on Udyog Path.
  • From Old District Court, Sector 17 upto Shivalik Hotel on the backside of Parade Ground, Sector 17.
  • From Lyon’s Restaurant Light Point near MC Office Sector 17 upto Parade Ground.

Follow these Parking areas in Chandigarh on August 15 

  • Parking area of Sector 22-B
  • Circus Ground, Sector 17
  • Parking area adjacent Neelam Cinema, Sector 17
  • Multi-story parking, Sector 17

Routes for buses

Buses coming towards ISBT Sector 17 shall be diverted towards ISBT Chownk. Meanwhile, in order to de-congest this area at the time of dispersal, traffic shall be diverted away from ISBT Sector 17 Chowk on Udyog Path by diverting traffic coming from 17/18 Light Point, Aroma Light Point, Sector 18/19/20/21 chowk and Cricket Stadium Chowk for half an hour i.e. from 10.45 AM to 11.30 AM. Further, at the time of dispersal, only buses will be allowed to ply on this stretch.                    

Advisory for security, media persons and invitees  

  • Invitees are requested to be seated latest by 8:30 AM at the Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh.
  • Special invitees/attendees are requested to enter Parade Ground from Gate Nos. 4, 6 & 7 i.e. opposite Sector 22 side, Chandigarh.
  •  General public is requested to enter Parade Ground from Gate No. 8, 9 & 10 i.e. opposite ISBT Sector 17, Chandigarh.
  •  Media persons are requested to enter Parade Ground from Gate No. 5 i.e. opposite Sector 22 side, Chandigarh.
  • All attendees are requested to carry an original photo ID card.
  • All attendees are requested not to bring any objectionable articles such as bag, match box, knife, cigarette, weapon, liquor, inflammable items, electronic devices, black flag, banners/posters, etc.

“Inconvenience caused to the general public on account of these restrictions is regretted. General public is requested to cooperate with the police,” said Chandigarh Police.

Notably, Independence Day 2023 is celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism on August 15th every year which aims to honour the brave freedom fighters and bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the country. This day marks the anniversary of India's independence from British colonial rule in 1947.
