Cousins separated during Partition reunite at Kartarpur Corridor after 76 years

PTC Web Desk: In a heartwarming and emotional reunion that transcends borders, two cousins, separated during the tumultuous Partition 76 years ago, found their way back to each other's arms at the historic Kartarpur Corridor. Mohammad Ismaeel and his sister Surinder Kaur, both in their 80s, undertook an extraordinary journey, bridging the divide between India and Pakistan, to share an emotional embrace at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

The remarkable reunion, made possible through the power of social media, unfolded against all odds. The families of Mohammad Ismaeel and Surinder Kaur were torn apart in the midst of the Partition, with their roots deeply intertwined in Shahkot town of Jalandhar district. But a chance discovery on a Pakistani Punjabi YouTube channel changed the course of their lives forever.

It was Sardar Mission Singh from Australia who played the role of destiny's messenger. Singh stumbled upon Ismaeel's story and, recognising the potential for reuniting lost loved ones, contacted him. Armed with nothing more than hope and a telephone number, Ismaeel and Kaur engaged in a conversation that marked the beginning of a beautiful journey of reconnection.

The Kartarpur Corridor, which symbolises the shared cultural and religious heritage of both nations, provided the bridge for their reunion. As they met at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, tears of joy and long-forgotten memories flowed freely. The administration of Kartarpur Sahib extended a warm welcome, offering sweets and langar to the reunited cousins.

In the shadow of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism, Kaur and her family from India performed religious rituals.
