According to an official statement issued by the Customs Department, the passengers landed at Terminal 3 on January 14 and were intercepted based on suspicion. During X-ray screening and a detailed search of their baggage, officials recovered nine polythene packets concealed inside a dark blue bag.
The packets contained a green, leafy substance which, upon examination, was confirmed to be marijuana. Preliminary field tests also indicated the presence of cannabis.
Authorities said the seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 8.77 crore in the international market. The drugs, along with the packaging material, were taken into custody.
Both accused have been arrested under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and identify possible links to an international drug trafficking network.
