PTC News Desk: In a major revelation in Delhi blast case, key suspect Muzammil has told the investigators that he and Umar had recced the Red Fort before the explosion in the area left 10 people dead and several injured. Investigators now believe the blast was part of a larger terror plan targeting Republic Day event next year.

During questioning, Muzammil said there was an attack plan for January 26 next year, and the area around Red Fort was recced as part of it. He also told the investigators that an attack was planned on Diwali this year, but was aborted later.

The investigation into the blast near Red Fort has uncovered a network identified as a "white collar terror ecosystem" which comprises highly educated group of medical professionals, many of whom were working at Al Falah University in Faridabad.

"The group has been using encrypted channels, for indoctrination, coordination, fund movement and logistics. Funds were raised through professional and academic networks, under the guise of social/charitable causes. The accused were found involved in identifying persons, to radicalise, initiate and recruit them to terrorist ranks, besides raising funds, arranging logistics, procurement of arms/ammunition and material for preparing IEDs," he said.

Meanwhile, the officials have state that the attack appears to be a case of accidental detonation as the explosives were not fully developed. The device failed to create a crater, and investigators found no shrapnel or projectiles at the site, suggesting it detonated before reaching full potency.
