Delhi BMW crash: Hospital where Navjot Singh was taken linked to accused Gaganpreet’s family

PTC Web Desk: Fresh revelations in the Delhi BMW crash case have raised serious questions after the police found that the hospital where Central Government official Navjot Singh was admitted was co-owned by the family of the accused, Gaganpreet.

Navjot Singh (52), serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Union Finance Ministry, died after a speeding BMW rammed into his two-wheeler near Delhi Cantonment Metro Station. He was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara with his wife, Sandeep Kaur, when the tragic accident occurred.

The luxury car was driven by Gaganpreet, with her husband, Parikshit, seated alongside. Instead of being rushed to a nearby medical facility, the injured couple was taken to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar — almost 19 km from the accident site. Investigations now reveal that Gaganpreet’s father is one of the hospital’s co-owners.

According to a passerby who helped transport the victims in his Maruti Eeco porter vehicle, Gaganpreet insisted they drive towards Azadpur. “She was calling someone and asking to keep beds ready,” Gulfam was reported as saying. Defending his actions, he said he was unfamiliar with the area and followed the accused’s instructions, which led to a half-hour delay.

Navjot Singh’s son, Navnoor Singh, expressed anguish, suggesting his father might have survived if taken to a nearby hospital. “Time is critical. It doesn’t make sense why my parents were taken to GTB Nagar when the accident happened near Dhaula Kuan,” he said. He further alleged that hospital staff withheld information on who brought his parents and later witnessed doctors preparing medico-legal documents under Gaganpreet’s name.

The police have booked Gaganpreet and Parikshit under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and destruction or concealment of evidence. The couple, residents of Gurugram, are said to be in the leather goods business.

Meanwhile, the hospital’s director, Dr Shakuntala Kumar, maintained that all medico-legal protocols were followed. “Navjot Singh was brought dead to the hospital. We treat every patient equally. Our condolences go out to the bereaved family,” she said, without clarifying questions on the hospital’s ownership.

The case has sparked outrage, with many questioning why valuable time was lost in transferring the critically injured officer so far from the accident site.
