Delhi faces persistent fog and cold wave; orange alert, travel disruptions

PTC News Desk: Delhi and its neighbouring regions continue to grapple with persistent fog and a coldwave, causing disruptions in train and flight schedules. The national capital witnessed another chilly morning, with the minimum temperature dropping to 4 degrees Celsius. The dense fog led to delays and cancellations of several trains, and the Delhi airport reported disruptions affecting around 120 flights, both domestic and international.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for very dense fog and coldwave conditions in Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday. Additionally, a red alert was issued for Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, with an orange alert for both states on Thursday. The adverse weather conditions are expected to impact commuting.


On Tuesday, approximately 30 flights departing from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed, and 17 were canceled due to weather conditions. The minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 4.8 degrees Celsius.

In Rajasthan, coldwave conditions and dense fog prevailed in various parts of the state. The Jaipur weather center reported minimum temperatures of 2.9 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur and Karauli, 3 degrees Celsius in Sangriya, 4.3 degrees Celsius in Sriganganagar, 4.5 degrees Celsius in Alwar, 5 degrees Celsius in Sikar, 5.1 degrees Celsius in Pilani, and 5.4 degrees Celsius in Churu. While the weather remained dry in Rajasthan, some areas experienced dense fog, and coldwave conditions were recorded at many places, with Sriganganagar facing an extreme cold day.
