Delhi rains: Yamuna water level breaches danger mark again

PTC News Desk: New Delhi, July 19: The Yamuna River in Delhi breached the danger mark again on Wednesday morning, less than 12 hours after it dropped below it due to rain in the national capital and the upper reaches of the river.

According to the Central Water Commission, the water level hit 205.48 meters at 8 a.m.

By 6 p.m., it is expected to rise to 205.72 metres.

After days of flooding caused by the swollen Yamuna River, the water level in the Yamuna dropped below the danger mark earlier. The water level in Yamuna was recorded at 205.25 meters Wednesday morning.

This comes even after the national capital experienced another round of rain on Tuesday. Even as the situation improves, certain areas remain waterlogged.

After days of torrential rain, the capital of Delhi had been crippled by major flooding and waterlogging. After their homes were inundated, residents in low-lying areas were compelled to seek refuge in relief camps. Meanwhile, popular places such as Civil Lines, Rajghat, ITO, and others were flooded.

On Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena inspected Mahatma Gandhi's memorial complex at Rajghat, which was inundated due to a flood-like situation, and expressed hope that the water will be completely pumped out within the next 24 hours.

Rains battered numerous parts of Delhi on Tuesday, even as the city grappled with a flood-like situation caused by a swollen Yamuna. Rain poured at Lajpat Nagar, East of the Kailash area in south Delhi, and parts of central Delhi, including the Delhi Secretariat area, among other places.

The meteorological department predicted moderate rain in the national capital on Tuesday. The city's minimum temperature was 27.4 degrees Celsius. The morning humidity level was 89 percent.
