Delhi NCR enters New Year 2023 with earthquake of 3.8 magnitude

New Delhi, January 1: An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck Delhi NCR in the early hours of Sunday, informed the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

NCS is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquakes in the country. A 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck northwest Haryana's Jhajjar at 1:19 am on Sunday, according to data from the centre. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km underground.

"Magnitude: 3.8 earthquake occurred on 01/01/2023, 01:19:42 IST, Lat: 28.71 and Long: 76.62, Depth: 5 km, Location: 12 km NNW of Jhajjar, Haryana," it said National Center for Seismology.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi NCR earlier on November 12. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the November 12 earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale and struck Nepal at around 7:57 p.m. "The depth of the earthquake was 10 km underground," NCS said.
