Delhi Police bust ISI-backed terror module; 4 Punjab youths linked to Pakistan’s Shahzad Bhatti arrested
PTC News Desk: Delhi Police have busted an alleged ISI-backed module for allegedly plotting a terror attack in the national capital, officials said on Thursday. The police arrested four accused- all from Punjab.
According to the police, the accused were reportedly in contact with Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti and were using foreign mobile numbers arranged by Pakistani handlers to evade detection.
Police said one of the accused had carried out reconnaissance of police facilities and religious sites in Delhi and had been assigned to execute a firing attack.
The accused have been identified as Shubdeep Singh (23), Gurjant Singh (22), both from Tarn Taran, Sajan Singh (28) from Amritsar, and Gaganpreet (24) from Fatehgarh Sahib. Three were arrested in Punjab, while Gaganpreet was apprehended in Delhi.
Police recovered two firearms — a Zigana pistol and a .30-bore pistol — along with nine live cartridges and five mobile phones.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Tripathi, the operation was launched after intelligence inputs suggested that Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti and his associates were planning a terror attack in Delhi-NCR. The information also indicated that young men from Punjab had been recruited for the conspiracy.
Using intelligence inputs and technical surveillance, police identified the suspects and carried out raids in Delhi and Punjab. The first arrest was made on Majitha Road in Amritsar, where Shubdeep Singh was caught with a semi-automatic pistol, five live cartridges and two mobile phones.
During questioning, Shubdeep allegedly told investigators that he was in contact with Pakistan-based handlers linked to the Shahzad Bhatti network and had been receiving weapons and drug consignments through drones, police said.
