A young man, identified as Lov Jaryal of Kolian village, drowned while bathing in Khunda Canal near Hajipur to escape the scorching heat. The police have taken the body into custody and initiated legal proceedings. Authorities have urged people to avoid bathing in canals and other deep water bodies, especially during the summer, as such incidents can prove fatal.
Patti | Youth dies after inhaling toxic pesticide while spraying fields
Charan Singh, a daily wage worker from Sabhra village, died after reportedly inhaling toxic pesticide while spraying crops in the fields. The deceased was the family's sole breadwinner and his family has appealed to the Punjab government and social organisations for financial assistance. Farmers and agricultural workers are advised to wear protective gear, including masks and gloves, while handling pesticides.

Mandi Gobindgarh | Migrant woman found dead inside box bed
A shocking murder case has come to light in Mandi Gobindgarh, where the body of a migrant woman was allegedly found concealed inside a box bed while it was being transported on a makeshift motorised cart.
According to preliminary information, the woman had allegedly been murdered before her body was placed inside the storage compartment of the bed. The incident came to light late at night when the vehicle carrying the box bed reportedly broke down after running out of fuel.
Suspicious of the situation, local residents inspected the bed and discovered the woman's body inside. They immediately informed the police. A video related to the incident has since gone viral on social media.
The police reached the spot, took the body into custody and shifted it to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Mandi Gobindgarh for post-mortem examination. DSP, Amloh, Vikramjit Singh said several individuals have been detained for questioning.
Mohali | Farmers protest against erratic power supply
Acting on the call of the SKM, several farmers' organisations on Tuesday staged a protest outside the PSPCL Sub-Divisional Office against the irregular power supply to the agriculture sector.
Leaders and members of BKU (Dakaunda), BKU (Rajewal), Kul Hind Khet Mazdoor Union and Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni ) participated in the demonstration. Jagjit Singh Jaggi Karala, president of BKU Dakaunda, Mohali district, alleged that the government's promises of providing uninterrupted electricity to farmers had failed on the ground. He claimed that frequent power cuts were disrupting irrigation, affecting paddy as well as other crops.
The farmer leaders warned that if the government does not address their demands and ensure adequate electricity supply, the agitation would be intensified in the coming days.
Khanna | 1,430 bags of subsidised urea seized during raid at Verka cattle feed unit
The Punjab Agriculture Department conducted a raid at the Verka Cattle Feed Unit in Khanna and allegedly found 1,430 bags of subsidised agricultural urea being used instead of technical-grade urea in cattle feed production.
According to Ludhiana Chief Agriculture Officer Gurdeep Singh Johal, the action was taken following specific inputs. A report has been sent recommending departmental action against those responsible, while the police have been asked to register an FIR into the matter.
Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has also directed the police to initiate legal proceedings and ordered action against the officials found responsible.

Attari | Sikh pilgrims return from Pakistan after Maharaja Ranjit Singh anniversary events
A Sikh pilgrims' jatha that travelled to Pakistan to participate in the death anniversary events of Maharaja Ranjit Singh returned to India through the Attari-Wagah border on Tuesday. The group, led by SGPC member Khushwinder Singh Bhatia, was warmly welcomed by officials of the SGPC upon arrival.
During the visit, the pilgrims attended the commemorative programme at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore, on June 29. They also paid obeisance at several historic Sikh shrines, including Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sahib in Sheikhupura and Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib.
The devotees expressed gratitude for the opportunity to visit the revered Sikh shrines in Pakistan and appreciated the arrangements at the gurdwaras. They also thanked the people of Pakistan for their hospitality and warm welcome during the pilgrimage.
