DGCA issues show cause notice to Air India over violation of flight duty time norms, seeks response in 7 days
PTC News Desk: The Director General of Civil Aviation has issued a show cause notice to TATA Group-owned Air India for violating flight duty time limitations (FDTL) norms for the crew.
As per the notice, the violations were flagged during the safety checks of the airlines' Bengaluru-London flights on May16 and 17 where FDTL had exceeded the 10-hour limit.
"During a spot check, it has been observed that the Accountable Manager of Air India operated two flights from Bangalore to London (Al133) on 16 May 2025 and 17 May 2025, both of which exceeded the stipulated flight time limit of 10 hours,” DGCA said in the notice, citing violation of Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR Section 7, Series J Part III).
"It is further noted that the Accountable Manager of Air India Ltd has failed to ensure adherence to the provisions and compliance requirements” the aviation safety watchdog said in the notice.
The airlines has not submitted any response to the notice yet.
The DGCA has asked Air India to submit its response within seven days that why “action should not be taken for these violations, as per the notice.”
Earlier in a crackdown on the airlines, DGCA had directed Air India to remove three senior officials, including a divisional vice president, from all roles related to crew scheduling and rostering. The move comes as part of a strong order issued by the DGCA on June 20, calling for immediate disciplinary action against the officials for lapses in operational oversight.
