Punjab CM embarks on four-day Shukrana Yatra, SAD calls it PR gimmick as state grapples with security concerns
PTC News Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will embark on four-day 'Shukrana Yatra' across Punjab days after an anti-sacrilege law was passed in the state.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has presented the yatra as a ‘thanksgiving’ after passing the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, which proposes strict punishment for sacrilege.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal has raised questions over the yatra as it comes amid twin explosions rocked the state lately.
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia asked the Punjab Chief Minister the purpose of 'Shukarana' rallies as Punjab grapples with security concerns with multiple explosions being reported across the state especially the defence establishments.
Calling the yatra a mere PR gimmick, Majithia said CM Mann is holding rallies while Punjab is constantly living under fear while mothers are losing their sons, leaders are facing theft allegations and innocents are being shot.
'Gratitude for what? Mothers are losing sons to drugs, innocents are being shot, your own leaders face theft allegations, and Punjab is living under fear', Majithia said in his social media post.
'Punjab is asking: Is this rally for sacrilege incidents, fear, drugs, collapsing law and order, or just PR and false narratives?' he further added.

The yatra will begin from Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and end at Shri Fatehgarh Sahib on May 9. Over four days, Mann will travel through several districts, including Ropar, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala, meeting people and offering prayers at key religious sites.
During his four-day visit, the chief minister will visit devotees across states.
At each halt, the Chief Minister, along with local MLAs, halqa in-charges and party leaders, will address gatherings. Stalls of sweet chhabeel water will also be organised at the local levels.
