E-commerce giant Amazon to invest $35 billion in India, 1 million jobs likely by 2030

PTC News Desk: Amazon on Tuesday announced its plans to invest over $ 35 billion across its businesses by 2030, cumulating the total invest amount in the country to $75 billion by the end of the decade.

Amazon’s new investment adds to the nearly $40 billion it has already put into India over the past 15 years. The announcement was made on December 10 at the sixth Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi, along with an economic impact report by Keystone Strategy.

According to the report, Amazon’s total investments—including infrastructure and employee spending—make it India’s largest foreign investor, the top facilitator of e-commerce exports, and one of the country’s biggest job creators.

The company said its upcoming investments will focus on three core areas: AI-led digitisation, boosting exports, and generating jobs, aligned with India’s digital and economic goals. Amazon noted that it has built extensive physical and digital infrastructure in India, such as fulfilment centres, transport networks, data centres, payments systems, and technology platforms.

The Keystone report says Amazon has already digitised over 12 million small businesses, enabled $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, and supported about 2.8 million direct, indirect, induced, and seasonal jobs in 2024 across various sectors. By 2030, Amazon aims to create another 1 million such jobs, driven by business growth, expansion of its fulfilment and delivery networks, and increased demand in related industries like packaging, manufacturing, and transportation.
