Four days after the tragic plane crash, the authorities have successfully identified 99 victims through DNA matching. Among those confirmed was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. So far, 64 bodies have been handed over to their respective families.
Civil Superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi confirmed that DNA samples from the deceased had been matched with those of their relatives, facilitating the release of the bodies. The victims belonged to various parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan.Efforts are ongoing to complete identification and handover procedures for the remaining victims.

US officials and the officials of Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) arrive in Ahmedabad. They are now heading to the site of the 12th June plane crash, to conduct an inspection.

Former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani's body will reach Rajkot airport at 2 pm.
Gujarat will observe state mourning today after Former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died in the Air India plane crash on June 12.
The identity of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was confirmed through DNA testing, three days after the catastrophic crash of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad. The test results came in at 11:10 am on Sunday.
Vijay Rupani's last rites LIVE UPDATES: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died on June 12 after the London-bound Air India flight 171, belonging to Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 fleet that he was travelling in crashed near medical hostel shortly after taking off.
The plane was carrying 242 passengers including crew member which was en route to from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Everyone, except a British-national, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was charred to death as the airplane crashed into the hostel building of the BJ Medical College, sending plumes of thick black smoke in the air.
Vijay Rupani was also onboard the ill-fated flight as he was flying to London to meet his wife and daughter.
Three days after the fatal plane crash, Rupani's DNA was matched and body has been handed over to the family. Rupani's funeral will be held in Rajkot today with full state honours. A one-day state mourning in memory of the BJP leader will be observed.
