The mother-in-law, Sans Dayawati, was caught near JIMS Hospital based on a tip-off while she was reportedly going to see her son Vipin, who had been injured in a police encounter.

Greater Noida dowry death: Accused husband sent to 14-day judicial custody, in-laws arrested

PTC News Desk: The police in Greater Noida dowry murder case, have arrested the mother-in-law, of the the woman who was killed in dowry-related attack, hours after the victim's husband was shot in the leg as he tried to escape the custody. He has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. 

The police have also arrested the father-in-law and brother-in-law of the woman. 


According to the DCP of Greater Noida, the mother-in-law, Sans Dayawati, was caught near JIMS Hospital based on a tip-off while she was reportedly going to see her son Vipin, who had been injured in a police encounter.

The victim's 55-year-old elder brother-in-law Rohit Bhati, was caught near the Sirsa toll in Haryana on Monday following a tip-off and manual intelligence inputs, the police said. Father-in-law, Satyavir Bhati, was also arrested shortly after.

Videos shared on social media showed Nikki being beaten, dragged by her hair, and later struggling to walk down the stairs after being set on fire.

Her father said that despite meeting repeated dowry demands, Nikki’s in-laws continued to torment her. “They first asked for a Scorpio, which we gave. Then they wanted a Bullet bike, and we fulfilled that too. Still, they kept torturing my daughter,” he told India Today TV.

Initial investigations indicate that Vipin had recently demanded a Mercedes purchased by Nikki’s father.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has taken note of the case and asked the UP DGP to submit a detailed action report within three days.

"Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written a letter to the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and has directed for the immediate arrest of all the accused, strict action under the provisions of law, fair and prompt investigation of the case and ensuring the safety of the victim's family/witnesses. The Commission has asked the Director General of Police to provide a detailed action report within three days," a statement from the Commission said.
