Gujarat ATS arrests eight members associated with Pak-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed
PTC News Desk: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested eight people in a major operation across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh for allegedly having links with the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), police said on Friday.
The raids were carried out in Banaskantha, Patan and Navsari districts of Gujarat, as well as Dewas in Madhya Pradesh.
According to police, the accused were part of an active sleeper cell that was working to build a terror network in Gujarat and prepare for future attacks. Most of those arrested are between 18 and 40 years old.
Investigators said some of the suspects were operating from religious and educational institutions, including madrasas in Patan and Navsari. Security agencies suspect these places were being used to influence and recruit young people while also helping with logistical support.
The ATS registered a case against all eight accused and produced them in court, which sent them to 14 days of police custody for further questioning.
The accused have been booked under several sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) related to unlawful activities, terror funding, conspiracy and links with a banned organisation. They also face charges under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
