Three Covid cases reported in Gurugram after nearly 2 years; health dept on alert
PTC Web Desk: After a gap of nearly two and a half years, Gurugram has reported three Covid-19 case as of May 23, prompting the district health authorities to intensify preventive measures. A 45-year-old resident of Wazirabad in Sector 52 tested positive for the virus on Friday.
This case comes on the heels of two Covid-19 infections reported recently in the city, one in neighbouring Faridabad. Gurugram and Faridabad health departments have been put on alert.
In response to the rising concern, the Health Department has decided to establish a dedicated Covid ward at the Civil Hospital. The ward will be fully equipped with essential medical supplies and infrastructure to ensure timely and effective care for patients who test positive.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Alka Singh has issued directives to all government and private hospitals to verify and maintain adequate stockpiles of essential medicines, oxygen cylinders, and other critical equipment. She said there should be no shortage of resources in case of an emergency.
“We are taking the situation seriously but urge citizens not to panic. The health department is fully alert and prepared,” said Dr Alka Singh.
She said the condition of the newly infected patient was currently stable and was being closely monitored. The Health Department had already initiated contact tracing procedures to identify and isolate those who may have been exposed to the virus.
Meanwhile, private hospitals across the district have been instructed to remain vigilant, adhere strictly to Covid-19 protocols, conduct screening of patients, and report any suspected cases immediately. The health authorities are also urging residents to resume precautionary practices such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and regular hand hygiene.
The district administration has issued an appeal to the public to get tested promptly if they exhibit any symptoms of Covid-19 and to follow isolation protocols where necessary. The Health Department will be conducting regular reviews of the situation and has assured the public that stricter measures will be implemented if the need arises.
