Haryana encounter: Four gangsters killed in Gurugram; one Injured, three cops sustain bullet injuries
Haryana encounter: A late-night police operation in Gurugram on Thursday ended in a fierce gun battle in which four alleged members of the Deepak Nandal gang were killed, while another suspect suffered serious injuries. Three police personnel were also injured after the accused allegedly opened fire on the Crime Branch team.
According to the Haryana Police, the encounter took place when Crime Branch officers intercepted a group of armed men who were allegedly on their way to target the residence of a local businessman in Gurugram. Investigators believe the operation was being carried out on the instructions of wanted gangster Deepak Nandal, who is suspected to be running his criminal network from abroad.
The police said they had received specific intelligence that armed shooters were planning to attack the residence of well-known property dealer Vishal Bairi in the Sushant Lok area. Following the tip-off, Crime Branch personnel laid a trap near the location to prevent the attack.
The suspects reportedly arrived in a black Scorpio SUV. Before they could allegedly execute their plan, the police team surrounded the vehicle and asked the occupants to surrender.
Officials said the occupants of the SUV refused to surrender and instead fired multiple rounds at the police team in an attempt to escape. The officers retaliated, leading to a brief but intense exchange of fire.
During the encounter, all five suspects sustained bullet injuries. Four of them died at the scene, while the fifth, identified as Shivam, a resident of Gurugram's Kota Bas area, was rushed to Medanta Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Three policemen also suffered bullet injuries during the exchange and were admitted to hospital.
Senior police officers, including the DCP (Crime) and DCP (East), reached the encounter site soon after the operation. Forensic experts and the crime scene investigation team examined the area and recovered several pieces of evidence, including sophisticated firearms allegedly used by the accused.
Preliminary findings suggest the accused were associated with the Deepak Nandal gang, which had allegedly been threatening businessman Vishal Bairi for extortion. The police suspect the gang planned to open fire outside his residence after their demands for money were not met.
