ICMR study linked to heart attacks, Covid underway: Health Minister

New Delhi, April 4: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is conducting a study to find the link between the sudden increase in mortality due to cardiac arrest and Covid-19, and the results are expected in two months.

The study's findings are due in two months, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Previously on December 22, during Chintan Shivir in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, the Union Health Minister said that the study will take six months to complete in order to determine whether there is a link between Covid-19 and heart attacks.

This study is being carried out by the ICMR team, which includes experts such as Dr Nivedita and Dr Tanveer Kaur.

However, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, the former Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization (WHO), stated in February that it is clearly proven that being infected with Covid-19 increases the risk of heart attacks, diabetes, and strokes.

"Risk of getting a heart attack is 4-5 per cent higher after being infected with Covid-19 than getting it after vaccination. Covid-19 infection is itself a main risk factor for subsequent heart attacks," Dr Soumya Swaminathan had said.
