International Yoga Day: PM Modi advocates Yoga for world peace, says 'it must be remembered across all ages'

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that yoga is not only important for staying healthy but can also help promote peace in the world.

Speaking at the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations at Red Road in Kolkata, attended by thousands of people, Modi highlighted the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle and said yoga teaches people how to achieve that balance.

Quoting the Bhagavad Gita, he said that a healthy balance between work, food and sleep is essential for a happy and stress-free life, and yoga helps people follow this path.

Modi said that many people struggle to maintain balance in today's fast-paced lifestyle. According to him, yoga teaches the right way to live, helping people develop healthy habits and take better care of their bodies.

He also stressed that yoga is not just about physical fitness. It helps improve mental well-being, which in turn leads to better physical health.

The Prime Minister added that understanding what is right and wrong through yoga brings inner peace and can also contribute to peace across the world. He said yoga is important not only for individuals but also for building a better future for humanity.

He urged people to make yoga a regular part of their daily lives rather than limiting it to a single day or event, and encouraged families to pass the practice on to future generations.

Modi also noted that yoga has become a global movement that brings people together across countries, cultures and communities. He said June 21, the longest day of the year, has now become one of the world's largest community celebrations because of yoga's growing popularity.
