Jalandhar road accident: Swift crashes into parked canter, three killed on spot

Jalandhar road accident: Three persons were killed in a horrific road accident on a national highway in Jalandhar after a speeding Maruti Swift crashed into a canter parked along the roadside. The impact was so severe that the car was badly damaged and its roof was ripped off.

According to the police, the Swift was travelling from Jalandhar towards Amritsar when it met with the accident near Bhagat Singh Colony.

The collision left the car severely mangled. Two of the victims, who were sitting in the front seats, became trapped inside the wreckage. The body of the third person, who was travelling in the rear seat, was found lying on the road after the crash.

The police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and faced considerable difficulty while removing the two bodies trapped inside the damaged vehicle.

The bodies of all three victims were taken to the government hospital in Jalandhar for post-mortem examination.

The police are yet to establish the identities of the deceased. Efforts are being made to identify them using the registration number of the Swift car.

Maqsuda police station SHO Rakesh Kumar said the accident took place near Bhagat Singh Colony on the national highway.

He said the Swift was heading towards Amritsar from Jalandhar when it crashed into the canter parked on the roadside.

According to the police, the canter driver had parked the vehicle on the side of the road and left the spot before the accident took place.

The police have started checking CCTV cameras installed in and around the accident site to establish the exact sequence of events.

The investigation is underway, and further details about the deceased and the circumstances leading to the crash are expected once the CCTV footage and other available information are examined.
