Lakhimpur Kheri Case: SC relaxes Ashish Mishra's interim bail terms, allows travel to Delhi

PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court on Tuesday relaxed Ashish Mishra's bail conditions in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case to allow him to travel and stay in the National Capital Region (NCR) so that he can take care of his ailing mother and treat his daughter.

The case is related to a violent incident on October 3, 2021, in which eight persons, including four farmers, were killed in Tikunia, Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district.

On January 25, a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta relaxed the interim bail conditions imposed by the court on Mishra. Mishra was told not to stay in either Uttar Pradesh or Delhi during this time.

The ruling was issued in response to a modification plea made by Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra, who stated that his mother is currently being treated at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi.

He also said in his application that his daughter requires treatment for deformities in her legs.

Senior lawyer Siddharth Dave, who appeared in court on Mishra's behalf, stated that his client needs to care for her ailing mother.

The judge granted the appeal on humanitarian grounds but ordered Mishra not to attend any public gatherings in Delhi or speak to the media about the ongoing case.

It further stated that the ban on entering Uttar Pradesh except to attend the trial, which was imposed by the court's order dated January 25, will remain in effect.
