PTC News Desk: The Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced constitution of three-member panel to investigate the allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma. The panel will submit its report to the speaker, who will then table before the house.
Accepting the motion signed by 146 MPs for the impeachment of the judge, the Speaker said, "The committee will submit its report as early as possible. The proposal will remain pending till the receipt of the report."
The procedure to impeach a sitting judge is laid down under Article 124(4) of the Constitution. According to the rules, at least two thirds of those 'present and voting' in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The case stems from recovery of a pile of cash from Justice Yashwant Varma's official residence that prompted constitution of in-house panel that recommended Justice Varma's impeachment.
After the discovery, the Supreme Court transferred him from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court. All judicial work was also withdrawn from him.
