LPG Price Hike: Commercial cylinders to cost more, check revised rates
LPG Price Hike: Commercial LPG has become more expensive after oil marketing companies raised the price of a 19-kg cylinder by Rs 209 on Saturday. According to sources, the retail price of such a cylinder in Delhi will now be Rs 1,731.50 after the increase.
The hike, according to reports, will go into effect on Sunday (October 1). In Delhi, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder costs Rs 1,522.50 and Rs 1,684 in Mumbai.
The price hike effectively reverses a Rs 157.5 per cylinder cut in commercial LPG pricing implemented on September 1, as well as a Rs 100 reduction on August 1.
The rise in the benchmark Saudi Contract Price (CP) for LPG has contributed to these price increases. This rise follows a trend in crude oil prices, which have been climbing in recent weeks due to supply concerns.
Domestic LPG prices, which are used in housing kitchens for cooking, have remained unchanged at Rs 903 per 14.2-kg cylinder.
The recent hike in LPG cost follows the Union Cabinet's approval in September of about 75 lakh new LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana. The program intends to supply these connections over the next three years at a cost of Rs 1650 crore.
Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, stressed that these connections are being offered to households who use wood for cooking, with a particular focus on rural women. It's important to mention that these new connections will be given without a deposit, with the Central Government first covering the costs, which will be reimbursed by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) later.
