Manipur: NIA arrests man for 'conspiring' with terrorists from 2 nations

PTC News Desk: In a transnational conspiracy case involving terrorist leaders from Bangladesh and Myanmar, the country's top anti-terror agency apprehended a terror suspect in Manipur's hill district of Churachandpur. The suspect has been taken to Delhi for questioning and further investigation.

According to the anti-terror agency, the accused and his network in Myanmar and Bangladesh tried to exploit the Manipur crisis.

In a statement on X (previously Twitter), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated that the terror accused, Seiminlun Gangte, is involved in a "conspiracy with Myanmar- and Bangladesh-based leadership of terror outfits to wage war against India by exploiting ethnic unrest in Manipur."

According to police officials, Gangte is also the primary suspect in the June 22 car bombing in Manipur's Kwakta, which killed one person. On June 22, a Scorpio SUV parked near a small bridge exploded, signalling a significant increase in violence. According to sources at the time, the attack exhibited the typical characteristics of trained terrorist hands.

The NIA has not stated which terror organisation Gangte is a member of.

Some 25 Kuki rebel groups, the majority of which are based in Churachandpur, have signed a trilateral suspension of operations (SoO) agreement with the center, the state, and the military, under which the insurgents are to stay in designated camps and their weapons are to be held in monitored storages. However, there are reports that certain rebels from groups that have signed the SoO agreement have been involved in the Manipur fighting.

In July, the NIA filed the case on its own.
