Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani among 500 businessmen invited for world leaders' G20 dinner

G20 dinner: Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, two of India's wealthiest businessmen, will attend a dinner with G20 leaders on Saturday in the nation's capital to celebrate India's position as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

With China's economy slowing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought to wield leadership of the G20 gathering of the world's most powerful economies to promote India as a destination for trade and investment.

U.S. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are scheduled to attend the gathering in New Delhi.

N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sunil Mittal, founder and CEO of Bharti Airtel, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, and the head of the Adani Group are among the 500 businessmen invited, according to two sources.

A senior Indian official who spoke about the event on condition of anonymity claimed that the dinner "will host various state heads and makes for an opportunity to gather India's Who's Who during the leaders' summit."

However, neither Russian President Vladimir Putin nor Chinese President Xi Jinping will be present at the conference this weekend.

PM Modi will have another opportunity to emphasize the business and investment prospects in India during the dinner on Saturday. The event, which will take place at a brand-new Bharat Mandapam, will feature Indian cuisine with a focus on millet, a grain that the nation has been promoting.
