'Operation Chakra 2': CBI carries out searches in Punjab, other 8 states against cyber criminals
'Operation Chakra 2': Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out searches against cyber criminals, involved in financial crimes, at 76 locations across multiple states under 'Operation Chakra 2.'
According to a senior official, a total of five cases have been registered. During searches, the CBI team recovered 32 mobile phones, 48 laptops, hard disks, and pen drives.
"Searches were conducted in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi-NCR and Himachal Pradesh," the official informed.
The purpose of this operation was to combat and eliminate financial enables crime. The searches were conducted using information provided by several national and international investigation agencies.
Two examples of International Tech Support Fraud Scams were discovered as part of Operation Chakra-II. In these cases, the accused impersonated a global IT major and a multinational firm with an online trading platform powered by technology.
According to the notification, the accused preyed on foreign nationals while posing as Technical Support Representatives in nine call centres spread across five states/UTs.
Furthermore, Operation Chakra-II cracked a sophisticated crypto-currency fraud operation. This audacious scheme, disguised as a fake cryptocurrency mining company, preyed on unsuspecting Indian people, resulting in a stunning loss of more than Rs. 100 crore to Indian victims.
