Haryana crime: A 25-year-old man from Panipat, Haryana, was arrested late Wednesday evening for allegedly killing his uncle in Punjab's Dera Bassi and later shooting dead his friend in Haryana before attempting to flee.

The accused, identified as Sahil Malik of Model Town, Panipat, is alleged to have first murdered his uncle, Rahul Malik (45), at the latter's office in Dera Bassi, Mohali district. The police said the incident is believed to have stemmed from an ongoing property dispute between the two.

According to investigators, Sahil reached his uncle's office on Wednesday evening and allegedly opened fire, killing Rahul on the spot. Another person present during the incident sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

After the shooting, Sahil allegedly placed Rahul's body in a Tata Safari and drove towards Panipat. Meanwhile, Dera Bassi Police circulated the vehicle details and GPS information to the police in neighbouring states.

The police said upon reaching Panipat, the accused contacted his friend, Ankush (25), and asked him to meet near a canal in the Samalkha area. An argument reportedly broke out between the two, following which Sahil allegedly shot Ankush dead.

Investigators said the bodies of both victims were later dumped near the canal before the accused fled towards Delhi.

Acting on information received from the Punjab Police, the Special Anti-Gangster Unit of Sonipat Police intercepted and apprehended the accused near Bhigan Toll Plaza on National Highway-44 around midnight. He was subsequently handed over to the Panipat Police for further investigation. A team from the Punjab Police also reached the spot following the arrest.

The bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital in Panipat for post-mortem examination.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
