PM Modi expresses commitment to Karnataka's development ahead of state elections
New Delhi, May 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the people of Karnataka that he envisions their dreams as his own, in a video posted on the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) official Twitter handle.
With the assembly elections looming, PM Modi praised the significant role that Karnataka plays in India's economy, stating that the country needs to develop Karnataka's economy at a rapid rate to achieve the goal of being one of the top three economies in the world. The PM also lauded the 3.5-year term of the double-engine government in Karnataka, emphasizing that the BJP government's approach has significantly contributed to the state's economy.

The PM underlined the BJP's commitment to the development of the state, focusing on infrastructure, transport, quality of life, and new opportunities for women and youth. PM Modi also stated that the BJP aims to make Karnataka number one in investment, industry, and innovation, education, employment, entrepreneurship, and agriculture.
The Karnataka assembly elections have seen all three major political parties - BJP, Congress, and the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) - put in their best efforts to woo voters, making promises and accusations to secure a majority in the state's 224-seat assembly. The majority mark to form the government is 113 seats, and the BJP, which is facing anti-incumbency, is eyeing a second term in the state with full confidence in retaining power.
The Lingayat and Vokkaliga voters, who comprise 17 per cent and 11 per cent of the population, respectively, will play a significant role in the elections. Karnataka is the only state in the south where BJP is in power, and the party has put in significant efforts to strengthen its support base, with top leadership including PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah campaigning for the party.
The Congress, on the other hand, has promised to bring back the Muslim quota, higher reservations for various classes, cash handouts, and freebies in its manifesto. The BJP has promised a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a National Register of Citizens (NRC), and repealing job reservations for Muslims.
The Karnataka assembly elections are scheduled for May 10, with the counting of votes taking place on May 13.
